Faded, hazy headlights happen when UV rays break down the polycarbonate top layer. Koch Chemie Headlight Polish 1 is the coarse compound that machine-cuts through that weathered layer, removing scratches down to roughly P1000 grit. Apply it with a rotary or dual-action polisher and a heavy cut pad or lambswool pad, working in crossing passes over the headlight lens. The formula is silicone-free, so there is no risk of adhesion issues if you paint nearby afterwards. After this first step the headlight looks clear, but not yet glossy: that comes in step two with Headlight Polish 2, which seals the finish with carnauba wax. Work one small section at a time and keep the pad moving so the plastic does not overheat. Suitable for headlights on cars, vans, and motorcycles with a weathered or hazy polycarbonate lens.
1 x Koch Chemie Headlight Polish 1, 250 ml coarse cutting compound for the first step of the headlight polishing system
Cuts through scratches and sanding marks down to roughly P1000 grit
Silicone-free, so it is safe to use right before or after nearby paintwork
Works best with a heavy cut pad or lambswool pad on a rotary or dual-action polisher
Step 1 of the Headlight Polish system, followed by Headlight Polish 2 for a glossy finish
Suitable for polycarbonate and acrylic headlights on cars, vans, and motorcycles
Wash and dry the headlight (Clean the headlight with car shampoo and dry it completely so no dirt or water gets trapped between the pad and the surface.)
Mask off the surrounding paint (Tape along the edge of the headlight with masking tape so you do not accidentally mark the paint during machine polishing.)
Polish with Headlight Polish 1 (Apply a small amount to a heavy cut pad or lambswool pad and work in crossing passes over the headlight with a rotary or dual-action polisher, one small section at a time.)
Wipe off the residue and move to step 2 (Buff away the residue with a clean microfibre towel, then continue with Headlight Polish 2 for the glossy, sealed finish.)
For masking, applying, and buffing you will also find 3M Masking Tape, the Koch Chemie Puck Hand Applicator, and a D-CON El Gordo microfibre towel useful.
