Q: What flooring is suitable for a workshop?

Concrete garage tiles or epoxy floor coating are the most popular options. Tiles are easy to replace when damaged; epoxy gives a dense, chemically resistant surface that's easy to keep clean. In both cases, make sure you have a non-slip surface finish and fill any cracks in the concrete floor before applying your coating.

A good workshop is more than a space with a lift. Masking tape in the right place, solid shielding, proper personal protection and a clean floor determine a large part of the final result. Whether you're touching up a bumper, polishing a wheel or doing maintenance: organisation and hygiene are not optional extras.

Spraying specifically demands attention to dust control, ventilation and masking. Paint mist finds its way everywhere it's not wanted, and a poorly masked panel costs more in rework than taking the time to cover it properly beforehand. Good materials help, but working method counts for more.

At minimum: a dust-free, well-lit space with ventilation (fresh air in, filtered air out), an outlet for solvent vapours and good lighting. A professional spray booth has controlled top-to-bottom airflow. At home, you can get a long way with a good extraction fan, bubble wrap sheeting on walls and a filtered intake.

Absolutely. With poor lighting, you only notice texture differences, missed spots and overspray after the paint has dried, by which point it's too late. Use LED tubes at multiple heights and a separate halogen or LED spot to check at a flat angle (raking light) while you spray.

Work on a defined surface wherever possible, use drip trays under vehicles and never allow solvents or chemicals to go down the drain. Paper rolls and industrial wiper rolls are faster and cheaper than continuously washing cloths. Store chemicals in sealed, labelled containers away from heat sources.
