How do I identify holograms with an inspection lamp?

Shine the lamp at an angle to the surface (15-30°) and move it slowly. Holograms are the swirling, waxy lines that appear where paint has been worked too aggressively or with a rotary without a finishing pad. They do not disappear with random orbital polishing.

Use a wide beam with high lumens for coating inspection, you want to see even coverage layers. Focus on edges, door shut lines and roof channels where coating quickly dries too thick or forms high spots.
