D-CON Light is a light pre-cleaner and iron remover that takes brake dust, embedded iron particles and corrosive deposits off your paint and glass. You use it after washing as a pre-clean: spray on, let it react until it turns purple and rinse off. D-CON Light is acid-free and safe on clearcoat. You will find the D-CON Light in the shop.
What D-CON Light does
Embedded iron particles from brake dust and industrial fallout cannot be washed away; they sit in the paint and start to rust. D-CON Light reacts with those particles and makes them soluble, shown by the purple colour that appears after a few minutes. According to its own specification D-CON Light is acid-free and non-caustic, and safe on clearcoat. It is meant as a light pre-clean of paint and glass, before the clay step.
How to use it
Wash first. Wash the car with the two-bucket method and rinse well.
Light mist. Apply a light mist of D-CON Light to the paint or glass.
Let it react. Let it dwell for five to ten minutes; the colour turns purple where iron sits. Do not let it dry.
Agitate and rinse. On a dirtier surface agitate lightly, then rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber cloth.
Light or V4
D-CON Light is the light, routine choice for paint and glass, safe on clearcoat. For wheels and heavier, stuck-on brake dust you use the stronger D-CON V4 Wheel Cleaner & De-Ironizer; how to use it is in the guide using D-CON V4.
What to watch for
Work on a cool surface in the shade and do not let the product dry. As with any iron remover you work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves. To see how D-CON Light compares to other iron and flying-rust removers, read the guide removing flying rust and fallout. You will find more products in the flying rust and fallout category.
