Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac is a creeping corrosion inhibitor that you dilute in water and spray on. Bilt Hamber states that migratory corrosion inhibitors are released and form an invisible, vapour-phase shield protecting ferrous metal against rust. Unlike a wax film it leaves nothing visible behind, ideal on the underbody, braking surfaces, suspension and tools. You will find the Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac in the shop.
What Atom-Mac does
Atom-Mac is a water-based, migratory and contact corrosion inhibitor. The inhibitors spread in the vapour phase and form an invisible protective shield on ferrous metal, even on spots you cannot reach with a brush. It is safe on painted surfaces and you can even add it to the rinse water after a chemical clean to prevent flash rust. Because it forms no durable film, it is meant for functional and moving parts, and you repeat the treatment after wet exposure.
How to use it
Dilute. Dilute Atom-Mac to 2 to 5 percent in water, preferably deionised or distilled water. For motorcycles and bicycles 1 to 2 percent, for disc brakes 5 percent.
Spray. Spray the solution onto the clean surface; for braking surfaces atomise it finely. You can also add it at the end of a wash via the pressure washer at about 2 percent.
Repeat after wet weather. In winter you re-spray braking surfaces and the underbody each time the car has been wet; Atom-Mac is deliberately not a one-off, lasting layer.
Storage. To store tools or parts, seal them in a bag or container after treatment so the vapour-phase inhibitors stay contained.
Temporary shield or a lasting wax film
Atom-Mac leaves no durable film and is precisely for that reason suited to functional, moving parts like brakes and hinges, where a wax film would be unwanted. For long-term, mechanically durable protection of cavities and the underbody you choose a Dynax wax, such as the firm Bilt Hamber Dynax-UB for the underbody. The whole approach is in the guide rust prevention and underbody protection. You will find more products in the rust prevention and conservation category.
